In Georgia the radical reforms of higher education is under way and its basic directions is defined by the legislation “About Higher Education”. From the viewpoint of reform Tbilisi University aims at forming modern educational environment and educating a new generation of competitive specialists devoted to the democratic values.
Tbilisi University was founded in 1994. The Rector of the university is Prof. David Jangulashvili.
Since 2006 it has become Accredited Higher University. The admission to the university is made on the basis of the results of Unified Entry Examinations. With the purpose of the integration in Joint European Educational System, university provides Bachelor, Master and Doctoral degree level study programs. Relevant educational programs are elaborated and modern method of teaching and evaluation is introduced in compliance to the major principles of Bologna process.
University has the following specialties:
- Law
- Finance, Banking and Insurance
- English Language and Literature.
Since 2001 Tbilisi University is the member of International Association of Educational Institutions. The Agreements about co-operations were signed with the Academy of Social Relations in Ukraine, Higher Humanitarian School of Poland , International University of Social Sciences of Estonia and other universities abroad.
There are some mutual forms of co-operations considered in the agreements signed with the above-mentioned universities:
- Exchange of teaching resources, programs and teaching materials, their joint elaboration and teachers’ exchange with the purpose of holding lectures in various subjects in compliance with the plans worked out beforehand;
- Exchange of teachers’ and students’ groups with the purpose of teaching as well as familiarizing with the culture, traditions and histories of Pole, Estonian and Ukrainian people.
- Conduct seminars on interesting themes not only during the academic period but in winter and summer times as well;
- Assistance in providing library with teaching materials and scientific literatures etc;
Tbilisi University has a rich material-technical base, lingua cabinet and computer classes equipped with the newest modern computers.
We thank embassies of America, Germany and France for the teaching and scientific literatures, audio and video materials.
Highly skilled academic staff is employed at our university, among them are 14 full, 14 associate and 6 assistant professors.
There are 3 faculties at the university. The First aid, teaching materials and computer courses are free of charge.
University translated the following manuals with its own resources: “Economics” – by Americans authors: Campbell R. McConnell and Stanley L. Brue, Volume II. “The Principles of Economic Theories” , “The Problems of Forming and developing the Market Relations”, “The History of State and Law”, English Language Manuals for Specialists, “Management Problems”, “World Economy,” etc. The above-mentioned manuals are free for University students.
Since 1998 the newspaper “Young Generation” has been publishing.
Students’ Scientific conferences are held annually at our university where students from other universities also take part in it. Their works are published.
We invite well-known writers and poets and hold literary evenings.
In 2003 Tbilisi University founded a private school in Vazisubani District. About 200 pupils already study there. School is equipped with modern laboratories, library, computer classes and teaching materials. |
